The National Field Hockey Coaches Association named six School of the Holy Child varsity field hockey players to the National Academic Squad.

RYE, N.Y. — Six varsity field hockey players at the School of the Holy Child in Rye were named to the 2011 National Academic Squad.

All players must have maintained a grade point average of 3.5 through the first half of the 2011-12 school year. The players were named by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association.

"We are proud of our talented student-athletes who distinguish themselves on the playing field while excelling in class,” John Pizzi, director of athletics at School of the Holy Child, said in a school press release. “Tremendous discipline and dedication are required to achieve such a feat.”

Named to the National Academic Squad were Helen Brosnan, of Larchmont; Jessica Cordasco and Paige Kennedy, of Eastchester; Molly Fitzwilliam, of Stamford, Conn.; Catherine Anne Gray, of Rye; and Mary Clare Manfred, of Tarrytown.

The varsity field hockey team's record is 23-13-3 over the past two seasons. It has made appearances in the New York State Association of Independent Schools semifinal and final.
